2025 Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee

Pope Francis has announced that 2025 will be a year of Jubilee – an event that happens every 25 years. The theme for the upcoming Jubilee is “Pilgrims of Hope”.

The 2025 Jubilee will begin in Advent 2024 and will run until the Feast of the Epiphany in 2026.

More information is available on the Jubilee 2025 website.

What is a Jubilee Year?

In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation in which people are invited to grow in their relationship with God, with one another and with all of creation.

How often is a Jubilee Year?

A Jubilee Year is celebrated by the Church every 25 years. This has been the case since 1470 when Pope Paul II changed it from every 50 years.

What is the theme of the Jubilee Year in 2025?

The theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can ‘restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone’. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in which we understand ourselves as ‘pilgrims on the earth’ rather than masters of the world.

At St. Mary’s, we are looking forward to the jubilee year as a time to renew our hope in the Lord and will share more information with you as the journey progresses.

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2025

In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer by Pope Francis, with a particular focus on the Our Father.

‘Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when He finished, one of his disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray…” ‘

Luke 11:1

Someone once said that ‘prayer doesn’t help our relationship with God, prayer IS our relationship with God!’ and so when we become more devoted to prayer, we are building up that Divine friendship. Being Pilgrims of Hope means that we should always be growing in our love of prayer on our journey of Faith.

“I would greatly desire that we devote 2024, the year preceding the Jubilee event, to a great ‘symphony’ of prayer.’” Pope Francis.

Prayer is a gift from God, a sacred connection that fosters a living relationship with the divine Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Our school display encourages us to think about our own life of prayer: what we pray, how we pray and why we pray.

Here are some ideas to support your family’s prayer life.
